Plot: Warden Bill Boss (Dieter Laser) runs a prison filled with violent criminals and no matter what he tries, he sees no positive results. He is consumed by the drive to break the prisoners down and make them submissive, to the point it has spilled over in all aspects of his life. His accountant Dwight (Laurence R. Harvey) thinks the solution lies within the films in The Human Centipede franchise, as creating a massive prison centipede would reduce costs and keep the prisoners docile. But Boss resists and uses his own methods, such as castration, boiling water burns, and other sadistic acts. Even when he uses these horrific tactics however, the prisoners remain violent and defiant. But if he doesn’t turn the prison around in two weeks, he will be fired. With no other options, Boss agrees to discuss the prison centipede concept, but could a 500 person centipede work or is it just movie bullshit?

Entertainment Value: The third and final film in The Human Centipede series, this film drops the standard horror elements and goes for a gonzo B movie approach. The movie reunites several of the franchise’s stars, most notable Dieter Laser and Laurence R. Harvey, the villains from the first two pictures. Harvey is much calmer here than before, while Laser goes balls deep into madness. The reversal is a great nod to the previous movies and is a lot of fun to watch. Laser is unhinged in The Human Centipede 3, devouring scenes and adding immense spectacle to the experience. The dark humor is ramped up and as I said, the horror elements have been toned down. There is still a lot of violence and bloodshed, but the focus is more on pitch black humor and fan service for devotees of the series. The film might not have the psychological horror of the original or the sadistic depravity of the second, but The Human Centipede 3 is a wild ride that is a fun, over the top conclusion to the franchise.

There’s only girl in this movie and sadly, she never gets naked. But we do have some bare male asses and prosthetic genitals, so there’s that. On the blood side, the gore is dialed back from the second movie, but still in copious doses. We see such wonders as a manual castration, several gunshot deaths, and a severe burn victim. The highlight for me was when a prisoner raped a man…in the kidney. There’s also splashes of blood throughout, so a solid amount of the red stuff. This one doesn’t top the second film, but its no slouch either. Dieter Laser’s performance is manic and off the rails, so he has numerous lines worth a quote. As far as insanity, the over the top comic tone dulls things a little, but there are still a lot of impactful moments. If nothing else, watching Dieter Laser eat a man’s testicles and toss back fried clitorises like candy earns a point or two. So yeah, pretty crazy shit.
