Plot: Kristen (Kasper Meltedhair) is a phone sex operator who makes decent cash, but sometimes she needs a little extra. Like when she finds a cool new Star Wars doll and can’t afford to add it to her collection, she bends her rule about no in person dates to make sure she gets what she wants. So she meets up with some clients for extra special attention and while these encounters are always creepy, at least she gets the much needed income boost. But when she meets up with Raymond (Jason Crowe), she winds up in a wild situation that involves a potential snuff film shoot, with Kristen as the lead actress. She is able to escape, but she hasn’t forgotten about Raymond’s actions, though a budding new romance distracts her. But when Raymond’s crew targets her new love for a snuff movie, Kristen goes on the warpath to settle the score.

Entertainment Value: Donald Farmer is one of the masters of no-budget horror, with a career that spans back to the 80s with all kinds of wild, outlandish horror movies to his credit. Hooker with a Hacksaw would feel right at home with most of his work, with cheap production values, hilarious performances, and of course, tons of hokey, but fun bloodshed splashed around. The story is a simple one and exists to guide Kristen from one murder to the next, which I think is fine, but I’m sure some will have wanted a little more out of the narrative. I mean, the movie delivers on the premise of a hooker with a hacksaw and that’s more than most films of this kind can claim, so I think the story does what it needs to do. The movie has a lean run time and minimal filler, so the pace is brisk and never drags in the least. The hilarious open is drawn out a little, but that is part of the fun, with Kristen’s ridiculous reactions as she repeatedly runs the hacksaw over the dude’s skull. The tone is silly and over the top, as you’d expect and while not as surreal as some Farmer’s earlier work, there is still a nice manic vibe at times. So more humor, less insane moments, but Hooker with a Hacksaw is a fun watch for those who appreciate low rent horror.

A movie about a hooker with a hacksaw seems like it should be laced with sleaze, but that’s the case here. There’s some teases often, but aside from some brief topless shots, no real nakedness. So if you were hoping for a sexual tornado of violence, might have to reel in those expectations. But the movie piles on the cheap gore, with old school style practical effects that are cheesy, but fun. Obvious tubes, rubber limbs, and silly hacksaw sequences abound, but they’re all a blast. The silly, over the top tone of the movie goes hand in hand with these kind of effects, including a scene where Kristen seems to be jerking off some guy’s intestines. You will see dismemberment, disembowelment, and some handy blade work, including a segment where a man’s penis is removed via hacksaw. The dialogue yields some oddball and outlandish moments, thanks to bizarre writing and some wild performances. I had fun with the dialogue here, but I am sure some will find it to be bad jokes and nonsense, which is kind of is, but it is good fun, so who cares? As for the craziness scale, we have the general wackiness, silly gore, and even some molestation of animal statues. Not as unhinged as some of Farmer’s movies, but some fun silliness.
