Plot: A naked woman has washed up on the beach, catching the attention of Bob (Robert Woods) and his girlfriend Moira (Tania Busslier). The couple brings the woman inside and learn she is still alive, but has endured some horrific experiences. She tells them she was taken to a private island that is home to the Zaroff estate, where a couple seduces young women with wine, food, and sex. After they’ve been given a proper night of pleasure however, the women find themselves unable to leave of their own free will, doomed to be “collected” by the eccentric Zaroffs. She managed to escape the terror, but little does she know that Bob and Moira are involved in this sadistic scheme, hired help to find new girls to deliver to the island. Of course, they return the escapee to the island and soon, discover a new treat to procure, the beautiful Silvia (Lina Romay). Will she suffer the same fate as countless girls before her, or can she manage to the be the first to truly survive the island?

Entertainment Value: I should note this review is based on the original director’s cut, not the retooled version that includes more explicit sex scenes. The Most Dangerous Game has inspired numerous film versions, but few are as memorable and outrageous as Countess Perverse. This is the kind of take on the material only Jess Franco could create, giving us a wild, erotic, and violent trek inside the twisted Zaroff island. The story is a well known one of course, but here we have a raw and brutal look at the cannibalism, sexual sadism, and murderous lust of the Zaroffs. And while Franco’s resume overflows with wild scenes, few can match the striking visual of a fully nude Alice Arno stalking her prey with a bow and arrow. The cast here is impressive, with Franco regulars like Arno, Romay, and Howard Vernon in prominent roles. Romay is great as always, but Arno steals the show as Ivanna, especially toward the film’s conclusion. A fun story, ample nudity, and some crazy moments make Countess Perverse a blast to watch, whether you’re a Franco fan or not. I prefer this director’s cut, but if you’re interested in the reworked, longer version, look under the title Sexy Nature. Or if you just can’t get enough Franco, watch both!

A wealth of nakedness is here to be discovered, with someone naked in almost every scene. Not just like a quick peek either, the nudity is frequent and extensive, long scenes that linger on the naughty parts. A lot of bare breasts and asses, plus more bush than you’ll find at a hedge maze. You’ll get up close and personal with the vaginas as well, with zooms so close you can read the lips. Romay is so hot as always and she has some fun lesbian scenes here, which is always good news. Not to be left out, the fellas get in on the action as well, with some full frontal nudity from Woods and a long shot of old man ass complete with bouncing balls in another scenes. So in other words, this one more than delivers on the naked flesh front. Not much blood, just some arrow wounds and a distant scene of a head being sawed off. None of it is graphic and there’s not big gushes of blood to be seen. Some great dialogue gems in this one, but they’re sparse. Even so, its always fun to have some sharp dialogue, even if its infrequent. On the craziness scale, we have a fully naked woman with a bow and arrow hunting another naked woman, cannibalism, sadism, and close ups of vaginal folds, so pretty wild stuff. Not the most insane of Franco’s extensive filmography, but Countess Perverse more than earns some solid crazy points.
