Plot: Taris is a nine minute documentary short by Jean Vigo, which features world class swimmer Jean Taris. This short is interesting to say the least, as it feels like a warped, but loving tutorial on swimming at times. The camera takes us into the water with Taris and lets us see his technique in motion, while the voice over gives us some narration on the styles used and the learning process as well. The movie then takes some odd, almost absurd turns at times, giving us this strange and wonderful vision that would entrance even those uninterested in the subject matter. I loved this short and was impressed with how much was accomplished in such a short duration, as well as the artistic elements woven into the approach. I’d recommend this to anyone who appreciates the more offbeat, experimental side of cinema.
