Plot: As a child, she walked in on her mother get dicked down and then had to watch from the backseat as her mom was fingerbanged. Driven to the brink, she tried to stop this digital manipulation, only to cause a car accident that would claim the life of her beloved mother. Now an adult, Helen (Jenny Neumann) is still haunted by those memories and is quite frigid, even the slightest touch often sets her off. Between her sexual dysfunction and violent hallucinations, the obvious career was in acting and that’s what Helen is involved with. Her latest stage production looks bleak, as no one can remember their lines and interest levels are low. The Director is concerned about the critical and commercial response, but of course, the show must go on. As opening night approaches, some of the cast members begin to meet violent ends and it seems as if someone is stalking those involved. Helen is paranoid she is behind the killings, but could it really be that simple?
Entertainment Value: I love crazy females, so Nightmares was a natural for me, as it features quite an epic crazy chick. The story is hilarious to me, as Helen causes her mother’s death when she tries to shut down a fingerblast, ruining sex for her forever and giving her post traumatic stress disorder. Like that be a lesson, if someone is fingering in the front seat, just let them finish. I really like this movie, as has a lot of crazy, mean spirited, or narcissistic characters, which means ample drama and nonsense. Jenny Neumann is able to play crazy very well, especially in the scenes where men try to touch her. She has that ice queen routine down to a science. The guy who plays the director is hilarious, but honestly a number of the performances here are a lot of fun. But I love asshole characters, so that might just be me. An Australian giallo sounds odd, but that’s what we have with Nightmares, more or less. I think the tension is solid and since the whole experience feels off kilter, the potential craziness around every corner works wonders. If you’re into ozploitation, giallo, horror movies, or just crazy chicks, you should check this one out.
For a movie about a chick who hates sex, Nightmares has a good amount of naked flesh on showcase. A number of topless scenes and bare asses, plus a few full frontal shots. I should mention that some naked chases take place as well, which means these aren’t brief glimpses, but extended scenes of nakedness. We also see naked people covered in blood, which is always fun. That includes both men and women, so hopefully you like seeing a guy’s dong while he crumples from stab wounds. On the blood front, again a nice assortment of visceral treats to take in. The killer loves to use slivers of broken glass, which slash up the victims nicely and also work well as stabbing implements. The blood runs freely, covering naked bodies and soaking many scenes. Not the most graphic violence around, but a good amount of bloodshed here. The dialogue here is great, because as I said, the characters are mostly terrible people. Lots of shouting, insults, and threats, just what we want to hear. The critic has some choice moments, but just about everyone gets in some good lines. On the crazy side, the mean spiritedness of it all earns a little, as does the sexual violence and emphasis on the dangers of fingerbanging while behind the wheel. Not to mention the batshit crazy woman at the center of all the chaos, who brings the heat as well.
Nudity: 6/10
Blood: 5/10
Dialogue: 7/10
Overall Insanity: 5/10
