Plot: Norman (Gerald Jaccuzo) is the Duke of Norwich, an ambitious man who has intentions to seize the throne at any cost. His half brother was beheaded in the garden, leaving a chance for someone else to usurp power. But he doesn’t want to rule directly, instead he plots to marry off Albert, the slow witted brother of the recently decapitated nobleman. Norman will choose a wife for Albert and when an heir is born, Norman will control the child and hence, control the power. But he isn’t a beloved man, so others will try to end Norman’s march to the throne, including Lady Jane (Patricia Dillon), who is pregnant with her dead brother’s child. Things only get more out of control as the power game kicks into gear, Norman chases sexual delights, and country waits to see who will assume power.
Entertainment Value: What a glorious shit show. Torture Dungeon is another of Andy Milligan’s period pieces and man, what a trip this one is. A guy wears the largest eyepatch ever seen on film, a man reveals he is “trysexual,” a hunchback joins in a threesome, and those are the more sane moments. I do think Torture Dungeon has more slow stretches than some of Milligan’s work, but it is still almost hypnotic in how terrible it can be. A period piece on a shoestring budget has to be a total nightmare to produce, but Milligan was able to cut some corners and made his own costumes here. It looks like most of the costumes were made out of blankets or leftovers from high school plays, but that just adds to the lunacy seen on screen. The acting is just as bad, but is like on a new level, as if it transcended mere bad performances. I think most audiences these days will hate Torture Dungeon, but I found it to be a good time. If you’re into Milligan’s films or strange, low rent period pieces, give it a look.
A few topless scenes and one poor girl can’t keep her tits from falling out, even as she cradles her dying mother. A skinny dipping scene offers full body nakedness, with both male and female parts on showcase. There’s also a threesome that involves a hunchback, but sadly its not really shown. Milligan toned the bloodshed down a little here, but we still have some red stuff around. A favorite scene of mine involves a guy being pinned to the wall like a human post-it note, thanks to a pitchfork. Other people get stabbed and slapped around, with a little blood here and there. You also see the hunchback stabbed in his hump, which seems cruel and wonderful. This is Milligan, so the writing is memorable and as such, ample lines that will stand out. The trysexual guy has most of the good ones, but even mundane dialogue amuses in Torture Dungeon. I wouldn’t call this one of Milligan’s craziest efforts, but the sheer epicness of the misfires is enough to make most people label it as pretty insane. It does have weird moments and the production values are outlandish, but I find this to be one of Milligan’s more grounded efforts.
