Story: Even in the wild, few animals are buck wild as the honey badgers, one of the craziest creatures on the plant and one of the internet’s favorite troublemakers. The honey badgers aren’t the largest or most intimidating presence in their areas, but they are fearless and will not hesitate to target much larger animals. This can be lions, elephants, rhinos, or whoever else happens to get on their bad side and with these lunatics, it doesn’t take much to make them mad. This documentary explores the honey badgers’ unique lifestyle and focuses on one specific animal, the notorious Stoffel, who is wild even by honey badger standards.

Entertainment Value: I loved this episode of Nature, as the honey badgers are such an interesting subject to follow and of course, the magic of Stoffel makes this an instant classic. A good portion of the episode is dedicated to Stoffel, a honey badger that has been captivity for most of his life, though that doesn’t stop him from escaping and causing chaos whenever possible. The stories alone about Stoffel make this a wildly entertaining documentary, but seeing him in action is so much better. He is so smart and persistent that he and his mate Hammie are tasked to test out methods to protect bee hives from wild honey badgers, a mission the two prove over and over to be more than qualified to complete. There is also a good deal of footage of wild honey badgers and an exploration of their antics and behavioral patterns, but for me, Stoffel steals the show and without question, Masters of Mayhem is highly recommended.
