Plot: A store is stocked with hundreds of pinatas, but one of them is about to take a stand for his kinfolk. Tired of seeing mankind use the pinatas in violent rituals just to obtain sweet treats, one small donkey pinata is prepared to fight back. The violence begins at the store where he is up for sale, but once the owner sees his handiwork, she marks him not for sale, then heads out to find a solution. But before she can return with a way to stop the pinata’s spree of bloodshed, another store worker sells the pinata to a busy dad who just wants to hurry up and leave the store. As the woman tries to find out who was the unfortunate purchaser, the pinata continues his reign of terror against a group of douches home for Thanksgiving break. As the bodies pile up and the pinata’s taste for vengeance only grows, can the store owner track him down in time or will there be nothing corpses left?

Entertainment Value: This is a premise I can believe in, a pinata who is tired of his friends being abused, so he takes up arms against the humans. As cool as that sounds, this movie sadly fails to make the most of the concept and winds up as a slow, often dull experience. When the pinata is front and center, the movie is passable, but when it focuses on the humans, it grinds to a halt. A lot of time is spent exploring the first world problems of these college kids, which just makes us want to see them killed off, but even the murders fail to elicit much of a reaction. This is more humor than horror, with little bloodshed and no real tension or atmosphere. I love the absurd nature of the premise, but it wastes so much time on unlikable human characters and really, who cares about these people? Maybe I’m in the minority, but when I watch Killer Pinata, I just want to see a pinata on the warpath. The actual pinata stalking humans is minimal, so buckle up for a lot of background on these characters that leads nowhere and fails to make us invest in them. I really wanted to love Killer Pinata and it has some bright spots, but it fails to put the spotlight where it belongs, on the pinata. If you’re really curious even after this review, give it a rental.

No nakedness. Not a lot of blood, but a couple fun moments of gore are here. The violence is mostly off screen and non graphic, with minimal blood visible. I have to admit, I was hoping this would showcase a wealth of over the top kills, but instead it is content to give us only a few kills and a ton of talking. Even the “pinata turns the tables” scene is rushed and little is shown, which is a shame. The highlights are an ear being torn off and when the pinata bites off a guy’s dick, both fun scenes and I wish all the kills had that level of attention. The dialogue offers a few memorable lines, but mostly droning conversations about relationships. The humor here felt flat to me, I would loved more over the top lines and colorful characters. Or just go full slapstick, instead of so much filler dialogue from the college kids. The premise seems crazy, but the insanity score here isn’t high at all. Beyond the pinata castration, hook hand pinata vendor, and a scene with slow motion vomiting, there isn’t much insane here. This could have an epic, off the rails ride, but it ends up pretty tame.

Nudity: 0/10

Blood: 2/10

Dialogue: 1/10

Overall Insanity: 1/10
